The interpreter's guide to body consciousness
The interpreter's guide to body consciousness
Conference interpreters’ and communication facilitators’ principal domain of operation resides in other people’s minds, following their ideas, understanding and processing them in order to convey them to a target audience in a form faithful to their cultural and language background. This requires an enormous amount of concentration. It creates cognitive load and both physical and mental stress reactions.
So how do we remain body-conscious in order to be able to keep our body-mind system healthy, functioning and resilient?
Yoga, meditation and somatic stress release approaches are a perfect remedy.
This webinar will give participants some theoretical background on stress and physical reactions. It shows them how, with gentle movements, breathing and stress-release tricks, they can stay in their body and stay sane, whilst the brain works flat out.
Programme:
The webinar is divided into two parts of 75 minutes each.
The first part will provide participants with some theoretical background on anatomy, ergonomics, understanding of stress, resilience and somatic stress release.
The second part will be dedicated to practical experience, including breathing techniques, stress release and movement at the desk and on the mat.
Participants should have a journal and pen ready and, for the second part, comfortable clothes, a blanket, a small massage or tennis ball and a yoga mat.
Meet your trainer:
Susanne Baumann-Cox holds a Master’s in Conference Interpreting and Translation from ITAT, Karl-Franzens University of Graz, Austria.
She has her own interpreting and translation agency in Austria and Spain and has worked in the field in a great variety of contexts for almost 30 years.
In 2014 she embarked on the path to becoming a yoga teacher in order to explore the possibilities of how to lead a better life or, for that matter, find the best version of herself.
It helps her to find inner poise, age better and to increase her quality of life.
In her classes she strives to help participants to improve their physical awareness, move in correspondence with their own individual anatomy and ease their heart and mind.
